Nicola’s Note
October feels like a big month for me.
For starters, it’s my birthday month. 55. Whoa.
But you know what? I really like this chapter of life.
It comes with its challenges, of course. Our kids are leaving the nest. Our parents are getting older. Life keeps reminding us that nothing stays exactly as it was.
For me, meeting all of that with grace is the goal.
At the same time, I feel incredibly excited about everything still ahead. I never want to stop growing, learning, challenging myself, or becoming “more” until the very end of this journey.
Which brings me to some pretty exciting news: I’ve accepted an invitation to pursue my doctorate at Marshall B. Ketchum University.
My studies will focus heavily on research, specifically on something I care deeply about: closing the gap between learning facial ultrasound and actually implementing it into everyday aesthetic practice.
At N2, ultrasound has become part of how we care for every filler patient. I believe strongly that this is where our industry needs to go, and my hope is that through research, education, and better implementation strategies, we can help more providers use this technology consistently, confidently, and meaningfully in patient care.
And because I know some of you are wondering: YES, I will still be seeing patients weekly. :)
But there’s something else I’m even more excited to share this month.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which makes it the perfect time to officially introduce the BADASS Foundation - Beyond A Diagnosis: Aesthetics, Strength, & Survivorship.
BADASS grew out of some of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in my aesthetics career.
Over the years, I’ve cared for patients after they’ve endured the hell of cancer treatment. There is something incredibly powerful about helping someone look in the mirror and, maybe for the first time in a long time, see themselves again.
Not the illness, not the treatment, not everything their body has been through.
Those moments have stayed with me.
I think there comes a point in life when contribution begins to matter more than personal success.
At 55, I feel that deeply. I find myself thinking less about what else I can accomplish and more about the impact I can leave behind.
Through the BADASS Foundation, we’ll gift a full-face aesthetic makeover each month to someone rebuilding their life and identity after cancer.
And we’re just getting started.
We’ll officially launch BADASS at our N2 Community Hour on October 27 at 6 PM, and I would love for you to be part of it.
