September has always felt like a fresh start to me. Fall is my favorite season. I love getting back to a little more structure, settling into a routine, and feeling that first crisp morning after the peak heat of August.
There’s something about the change of season that always invigorates me. Although with El Niño this year, who knows when that crisp morning will actually arrive (lol.)
This fall feels a little different in our house. It’s quieter, and I’m buying significantly fewer groceries, with my older son now at IU studying business at Kelley. Sending a child off to college is such an odd transition. But now that I’m on the other side of drop-off, I find myself feeling much more excitement for everything ahead of him than sadness about what I’m missing. I love watching him begin this next chapter.
There’s a lot of new energy at N2, too.
The launch of N2 Skin has been incredible. I’m beyond thrilled by how many of you are excited to try what we’ve created, and I cannot wait to celebrate with you at our rescheduled launch party this month. Details are below!
Fall also means education season at the N2 Training Center. We’re gearing up for a full calendar of continuing medical education, including our ultrasound and anatomy courses, and later this year, we’ll welcome the incredible Dr. Kate Goldie from London for a very special masterclass in regenerative aesthetics.
I love to teach and I love to learn.
An important reminder: fall is always our busiest season at N2. With the holidays just around the corner, now is the time to start planning ahead for the appointments and treatments you want before all of those parties, photos, and celebrations.

N2’s Take
A New Reason to Love Laser Season
Every fall, we start talking about “laser season.”
Less sun exposure makes the cooler months an ideal time to address pigmentation, uneven texture, and cumulative sun damage that tends to show up after summer.
But a new study published in Scientific Reports caught our attention because researchers looked far beyond what we can see on the surface.
They studied adults receiving a series of three treatments with a 1940-nm non-ablative fractional laser and found measurable changes in the skin at the molecular level.
And this is where it gets really interesting.
What they found was pretty remarkable: after treatment, researchers saw changes in DNA methylation, one of the ways our cells regulate gene activity, that were moving in the opposite direction of what we typically see with aging.
In fact, that was true for nearly 84% of the areas they studied that showed strong changes with both aging and laser treatment. In other words, the skin was showing measurable molecular changes consistent with a more youthful direction.
And those changes continued after the treatments were over.
They became more noticeable after the full treatment series, strengthened over the following months, and were still detectable at six months.
The study also showed visible improvements in pigmentation and texture, so what was happening beneath the surface translated to changes patients could actually see.
But the most compelling part may be what this means beyond aesthetics.
This study wasn’t specifically looking at skin cancer prevention, but the researchers point to earlier studies suggesting that fractional laser treatments may help reduce precancerous sun damage and lower the risk of certain common skin cancers on the face.
That adds an entirely different dimension to why we use lasers.
They’re not simply about correcting a brown spot or softening a fine line. We’re creating a controlled response in the skin that can support remodeling, renewal, and potentially healthier skin function over time.
That’s why we believe so strongly in treating skin proactively at N2.
If summer is when we accumulate the damage, fall is when we start repairing it.
